I just read an article at the following link http://www.miamiherald.com/2010/07/13/1729144/cuban-migrant-found-after-25-days.html titled "CUBAN MIGRANT FOUND WITH STYROFOAM BOAT STILL WITH COAST GUARD.
Words carry with them power, and the word "CUBAN MIGRANT" used in the title of this article is a politically correct term for a Cuban Refugee, with socio-political implications far beyond the surface meansings of the word itself.
Migrants are day laborers and workers from other lands who come to the United States to perform labor, often manual labor in agriculture and other areas of our economy such as construction and services. Refugees are not migrants, and they ought not to be confused or mixed with them, especially Cuban Refugees.
To do so is an injustice to those who have come to the United States fleeing oppression from other lands, whose sole purpose to come to these shores was to escape tyrants and dictators of every stripe, not to make a buck.
To mix them with migrants is to them a disservice, because to do so is to dminish their status and the reasons for their journey here. It is my opinion that the word "MIGRANT" was chosen by the reporter, or by his enditor to keep this story within the confines of the current immigration debate, and if this is the purpose behind it, it is unfortunate, because the case of refugees fleeing oppresive regimes should never, but never be confused or used by politicians and dialecticians to use to promote their political agendas.
It never ceases to amaze the ingenuity of people who will do anything, and go to any means to escape a regime so repressive, so oppressive, so counter to human norms of the pursuit of happiness and human dignity, both whose cornerstone is liberty – a right granted only to every human being by G-d, but either secured or denied by governments; that such people will to suffer any danger, any threat, anything to live free as befitting G-d’s own creation made in His image for which G-d gave all He has in order to redeem from death and eternal separation.
The human spirit will not be diminished and silenced even in the face of repression. Every tyrant who has ever lived and every regime that has denied these inalienable rights has become bygone relics consigned to history’s dust heap of failed systems and failed ideologies. This is why whenever such rights are trampled upon, there is something in the human will that signals a warning against such acts of repression, and cries out on behalf of those oppressed that such acts must be put to an end, and those who commit them brought to the bar of justice to face their day to account for their behavior and actions against their fellow human beings.
The day will come when the great tyrants of history will stand before their Maker and account for their acts during the brief and troubled lives they led, and the inestimable suffering and horror they brought upon so many others as they decimated the world they inhabited during their brief and wasted lifetime. There will be no escape and no mercy for them, for as they did to others and as they themselves set others to do their bidding, they too will know about the extent of their crimes against the human race, and their sins before G-d.
But with each invention of those who search for ways to escape the repression around them, there is a testimony that bears witness to the unlimited ingenuity of the human mind, and the soaring will of the human spirit in searching to find new and innovative ways to be released from the bonds which shackle them which has brought them to such levels of desperation that they would brave even death in order to escape the life they know, even without knowing what the unknown may hold for them, which they themselves consider even better than what they have known thus far.
This no Nazi storm trooper, Gestapo interlocutor, Soviet Commissar, or some bureaucrat in the service of some arcane federal agency can deny. Like the pickup that bore pontoons and brought a group of intrepid Cubans across the Caribbean Sea some years ago, that the US Navy sank, and whose precious cargo of human beings were returned to their mother country without so much as a peep from La Raza, Lulac, the Congressional Black Caucus, and other so-called pro-immigrant groups, there will be more and more people like these who will continue to brave the dangerous waters and unknown dangers of the oceans surrounding the imprisoned island nation of Cuba in order to reach the shores of freedom just 90 miles away.
The big labor unions allied to so-called immigrant rights groups who seek to add to the roster of the Democratic Party have not come out, and will not come out for these refugees because they do not promise to augment the voting numbers of a political party these unions and groups are allied to, thus these refugees, like so many of their family and friends already in the United States are treated like non-entities and a type of non-people, much as the Jews of the thirties were who sought to escape the repression of the Nazis gripping Europe in that era.
Nevertheless, the G-d of all creation will not stand idle in beholding such crimes, and everyone who commits such atrocities, whether by policy or by action, or by association; will all have to give an account some day, and many who do not pay for their crimes in this life, will in the end be brought to justice nonetheless in the time yet to come. No one will escape, not one.
