This is Part Ten of our series of responses to David James’ reply to Dr. David R. Reagan’s excellent defense of Jonathan Cahn and his New York Times bestseller, The Harbinger. It is a very good thing that Mr. James has presented his opinions, I’ve said this in my posts on my website, The Pepster’s Post: A Voice in Cyberspace. Without Mr. James’ icy scholastic and somewhat detached analysis of The Harbinger, we would not have a fully vetted and examined topic to discuss regarding the occurrences that have taken place which Mr. James disputes along with everything else he can find that he can argue against.
Mr. James if very good at his statecraft, as a professor of one our nation’s leading seminaries, and he knows how to argue a point using the best methods of debating possible which he learned as part of his higher education. I’ve intentionally used the description of what Mr. James does as statecraft inasmuch as he has held leadership positions in his field, as well as has been a missionary which makes him an ambassador of the Good News, just as we are all to be, and therefore he puts these to good use in his opposition to The Harbinger. But it must be stated without equivocation that regardless of how well-crafted and developed his arguments may appear to the casual reader, it is the truth that wins in the end, and even the best crafted arguments and efforts of human intellect cannot defeat the facts when they are presented side by side to Mr. James’ arguments.
Mr. James posits, as he does elsewhere, that what I have written about his methods and public statements have been unacceptable to him and to his colleagues, but I know that what I have written are facts, supported by the evidences of Mr. James’ own writings and posting, and public statements. He can deny them, but he’s made them. All I have done is to call him to account for them, because every single one of them have been nothing but falsehoods and fallacious sophistry.
He does not want to go into them here, but I am willing to debate Mr. James on the facts point by point from Scripture, and allow the chips fall where they may, as I know what I have believed in and in whom I have believed in, and I am certain of this, that He is able to keep it until the day of His coming. I have taken Mr. James book, The Harbinger: Fact or Fiction? and having examined it, have it to contain error and falsehoods. I have given Mr. James the benefit of the doubt, and not called him a deceiver or imputed the guilt of knowingly written falsely on The Harbinger and against Jonathan Cahn, but have said time and again, and do so here; that I believe that Mr. David James has misread and misinterpreted The Harbinger, and what he has written has been the result of this misreading and misunderstanding. I have called the most colossal misunderstanding in memory. I could’ve been less gracious – as he has been with Pastor and Messianic Rabbi Jonathan Cahn whom he’s used more than a dozen epithets against – but I choose not to do this, instead I have given Mr. James the benefit of the doubt by simply saying he has misread and misunderstood The Harbinger, and has passed judgment falsely on it on the basis of that misreading and misunderstanding. This is what I believe has happened.
It would be the only way to explain how a person can be so convinced of his error when presented with the facts over a period of a year and a half, not just by me, but by others, and still maintain and express the opinions we read below. Only God judges men’s hearts, and I will not go there, therefore I can only understand this cognitive dissonance as a misreading and misunderstanding based upon a false theological premise pertaining to Mr. James’ Cessationism.
The Harbinger is written in the form of a novel that describes a biblical pattern of judgment that has repeated itself in just about every great civilization in history, but the book focuses on how this specific pattern of judgment befell the northern kingdom of Israel, headquartered in Samaria, in 732 B.C. when the prophet Isaiah rebuked and pronounced judgment on the nation and its leaders for vowing – as he describes it – “in pride and in arrogance of heart” (Isaiah 9:9) to undertake a rebuilding and recovery program after a limited first strike on the land was made by Assyria. This rebuilding, replanting, and recovery effort was done without accounting to God or giving Him any mind, much as our leaders today have done today. The full strike occurred ten years later in 722 B.C., when the Assyrian Empire invaded Damascus, overran the northern kingdoms’ defenses, and exiled almost the entire population to the east. The Harbinger breaks the parts of this judgment and how it occurred into nine specific warnings – or harbingers – that manifested themselves in the land, and describes according to the elements contained within the biblical text as they are described within the vow made by the ancient leaders of Israel how they historically played out, and their subsequent results. The Harbinger then takes the reader to the present and describes in exact detail and precision how the same pattern of judgment has befallen the United States. It documents thoroughly the biblical history contained in Isaiah’s prophecy and the prophetic events that are now a matter of public record available regarding the same patterns of warning and judgment that are now being played out in exact detail and precision in our land today. America is most assuredly under judgment, and The Harbinger describes how it is being played out. It is not hopeless however, because The Harbinger presents the hope that since these are warnings – harbingers from God – they all indicate that He is trying to get our attention so that God’s people may call upon Him in repentance for themselves and their nation, seek His face, and avert the same fate that befell ancient Israel at the hands of the Assyrians in 732 B.C. and 722 B.C., and ancient Judah (the southern kingdom) at the hands of the Babylonians under Nebuchadnezzar in 605 B.C., during the first deportation and in 586 B.C., during the final deportation to Babylon. The Harbinger is a strong call to repentance to God’s wayward people in America today as we see the same pattern of warning and judgment – the same harbingers manifest themselves in our land today. It is a prophetic warning that must be heeded if we are to survive. It is the same warning that Paul in the Holy Spirit warned about when he used what had happened to Israel as an illustration of what would befall his people – the Jewish people, and all others who reject God’s warnings – where he writes:
But if some of the branches were broken off, and you, being a wild olive, were grafted in among them and became partaker with them of the rich root of the olive tree, do not be arrogant toward the branches; but if you are arrogant, remember that it is not you who supports the root, but the root supports you. You will say then, “Branches were broken off so that I might be grafted in.” Quite right, they were broken off for their unbelief, but you stand by your faith. Do not be conceited, but fear; for if God did not spare the natural branches, He will not spare you, either. Behold then the kindness and severity of God; to those who fell, severity, but to you, God’s kindness, if you continue in His kindness; otherwise you also will be cut off. And they also, if they do not continue in their unbelief, will be grafted in, for God is able to graft them in again. For if you were cut off from what is by nature a wild olive tree, and were grafted contrary to nature into a cultivated olive tree, how much more will these who are the natural branches be grafted into their own olive tree?
For I do not want you, brethren, to be uninformed of this mystery—so that you will not be wise in your own estimation—that a partial hardening has happened to Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in; and so all Israel will be saved; just as it is written,
“The Deliverer will come from Zion,
He will remove ungodliness from Jacob.”
“This is My covenant with them,
When I take away their sins.”
From the standpoint of the gospel they are enemies for your sake, but from the standpoint of God’s choice they are beloved for the sake of the fathers; for the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable. For just as you once were disobedient to God, but now have been shown mercy because of their disobedience, so these also now have been disobedient, that because of the mercy shown to you they also may now be shown mercy. For God has shut up all in disobedience so that He may show mercy to all.
(Romans 11:17-36)
The Lord is patient and ever ready to forgive our transgressions. He awaits to pardon US if we only seek His forgiveness fully realizing our guilt, confessing it to Him, recognizing how hopeless we are without His mercy, and calling upon His name – the name He has given under heaven to all men by which we must be saved, because as Peter spoke in the Holy Spirit to the Great Sanhedrin (Israel’s Supreme Court in his day where civil and religious matters were adjudicated), “He” – meaning the Person of the Messiah, and His name; the name of Jesus – “is the stone which was rejected by you, the builders, but which became the chief corner stone. And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved.” (Acts 4:11-12) This we all must do to avert personal judgment and the corporate judgment of our nation which we and it rightfully deserve.
v DAVID JAMES: The concern of some regarding his book is due to his heavy dependence on George Washington as an example of one who was part of invoking (or affirming) a covenant between America and God. In The Harbinger’s well-known dream sequence King Solomon morphs into George Washington. Without assigning nefarious motives to Jonathan Cahn, given that some trace Freemasonry back to Solomon, it is a very strange literary device when combined with the fact that Washington is a celebrated Freemason, was sworn into office on a masonic Bible in the presence of masonic leaders, was part of a masonic procession to St. Paul’s church, was the charter Master of the Alexandria lodge, is depicted in several paintings as well as a famous statue in full masonic regalia and was buried with a masonic ceremony. Furthermore, there is the troubling matter of the interior of the dome of the nation’s capitol building which depicts Washington’s ascension to godhood (“apotheosis”).

In the summary to his article on George Washington and Free Masonry, Paul M. Bessel concludes with the following summation:
George Washington may have attended, at most, 9 Lodge meetings in his entire life after he became a Master Mason, plus a few other Masonic Lodge events (not Lodge meetings) as listed. There is no proof that he attended several of the events in this list, just claims by Masons who may have been basing their claims on rumors.

In case it is thought that Washington was too busy to attend Masonic lodge meetings, it should be noted that his biographies indicate that George Washington attended many plays, circuses, and ceremonial dinners throughout his life, including times when Masonic lodge meetings were available and he could have attended them, had he wished to.
On the other hand, Washington wrote letters including clearly complimentary comments about Freemasonry on the following 10 occasions, most of which are documented.
June 19, 1784 to the Secretary of Alexandria Lodge No. 39
April 20, 1791 St. John's Lodge No. 2 in Newburn, North Carolina
May, 1791 to Prince George's Lodge No. 16 in Georgetown, SC
Conclusions
Washington admired the principles and goals of Freemasonry, but he was not very familiar with them and did not attempt to learn more about Freemasonry.
Washington wrote letters indicating that he was happy to be a Mason; presided in a major Masonic ceremony laying the cornerstone of the U.S. Capitol in Masonic regalia, and possibly in some other Masonic ceremonies; never sought to resign or repudiate his Masonic membership; and did not say or do anything negative toward Freemasonry, other than that some Masons promoted the radicalism of the French Revolution (as did others).
However, there is little or no evidence that Washington attended many Masonic lodge meetings in his whole life after becoming a Mason 1753.
Washington attended at most 3 meetings, possibly fewer or none (he may have attended dinners but not the preceding meetings), of the lodge that today is called Alexandria-Washington Lodge #22, and of which he was the first Master under its Virginia Charter. While he was Master of that lodge, he did not do anything to assist the work of the lodge, and he attended, at most, one meeting (if he attended that one), when officers were reelected.
There is no indication that he actually presided as Master on that occasion and it is unlikely that he did so. Paintings and sculpture showing Washington presiding as a Master of that or any other Masonic lodge are probably based only on wishful thinking.
Some Masons may have gotten carried away with their delight that the most eminent citizen of the United States, George Washington, joined the Freemasons when we was very young and continued to be a member throughout his life and wrote letters supporting Freemasonry, and they may have attempted to portray him as an active and enthusiastic member of the Craft even though the evidence indicates that he was not.
George Washington was apparently a Mason who was not very interested in attending lodge meetings, although there is considerable evidence that he was happy to be a member and publicly supported Freemasonry.
(Paul M. Bessel, George Washington's Writings About Freemasonry and Attendance at Masonic Meetings and Events)

1798
Rev. G.W. Snyder, who said he was with the Reformed Church of Fredericktown, Maryland,(46) sent Washington a letter on August 22, 1798, saying, "a Society of Free Masons, that distinguished itself by the name of 'Illuminati,' whose Plan is to over throw all Government and all Religion....it might be within your power to prevent the Horrid plan from corrupting the brethren of the English Lodges over which you preside."(47)
September 25, 1798, Washington wrote a letter to Snyder, including the following language, referring to Masonic lodges:
"... to correct an error ..., of my presiding over English Lodges in this country. The fact is I preside over none, nor have I been in one more than once or twice within the last thirty years...."(48)
October 24, 1798
Washington wrote another letter to Rev. Snyder, after Snyder responded to Washington's previous letter. Washington included the following language in this letter:
"... [referring to] the doctrines of the Illuminati, and principles of Jacobism ... in the United States....I did not believe that the Lodges of Freemasons in this Country had, as Societies, endeavored to propagate the diabolical tenets of the first, or the pernicious principles of the latter.... That individuals of them may have done it ... is too evident to be questioned...."(49)
(Paul M. Bessel, George Washington's Writings About Freemasonry and Attendance at Masonic Meetings and Events)
Washington neither ascribed to the Free Thinkers of the Enlightenment in Europe who now dominated the lodges of France and Great Britain, nor did he concur with their designs on the lodges of North America, and their evil globalist designs on the new nation, as can his reply to Reverend Snyder regarding the Illuminati. David James appears to not have been aware of this when he wrote his book. But there are a lot of things that he does not appear to be aware of, as we examine them one by one in this series.
v DAVID JAMES: These are our concerns and they are well-founded. They are not “absurd allegations” and should not be misrepresented as suggesting that he has any direct masonic connections—nor even that he intentionally included a masonic connection in his book.

My Personal Stance (Dr. Reagan’s)
Dr. Reagan concludes his article:
The nit-picking, Pharisaical hyper-critics of Christianity need to be reminded of the wisdom of Gamaliel which he shared with the Sanhedrin Council when they arrested Peter and the apostles and desired to kill them (Acts 5:29-33). Gamaliel stated that if what the followers of Jesus were teaching was false, nothing would come of it. “But if it is of God, you will not be able to overthrow them.” He then added, “You may even be found fighting against God” (Acts 5:38-39).
The pit bulls of Christianity can growl and yap and snarl all they please, but anointed messengers of God like Wilkerson and Cahn will prevail because they are speaking the truth. I stand with them, and I am proud to do so.
Together with them, I cry from the depths of my heart, “Wake up America! You are blaspheming the very God who blessed you. He has sent prophetic voices and remedial judgments to warn you and call you to repentance. What will be your choice? Repentance or Destruction?”

1.) The Pharisees, Sadducees, chief priests, scribes, and doctors of the Law viewed themselves as the defenders of Judaism – of the Jewish faith. David James and his colleagues by their own admission view themselves as the defenders of Christianity – of the Christian faith.
2.) The Pharisees, Sadducees, chief priests, scribes, and doctors of the Law viewed themselves as godly men beyond reproach and always biblically correct. David James and his colleagues by their own admission view themselves as godly men beyond reproach and always biblically correct.
3.) The Pharisees, chief priest, scribes, and doctors of the Law considered themselves more learned than the people, and considered the masses as accursed and being biblically illiterate people who will fell for any itinerate preacher. David James and his colleagues by their own admission consider themselves more learned than the people, and consider the masses of Christianity in America today as biblically illiterate people who will fall for any itinerate preacher.
4.) The Pharisees, Sadducees, chief priest, scribes, and doctors of the Law were quick to criticize and condemn Christ for keeping the wrong company, because they considered that to do this would defile them from service to God. David James and his colleagues criticize Jonathan Cahn and anyone else for taking the message of The Harbinger – which includes the Gospel – to what is to them the wrong crowd, and therefore claim that to do the same invalidates one’s ministry, as if to say that one becomes defiled by keeping such company.
5.) The Pharisees, Sadducees, chief priest, scribes, and doctors of the Law looked askance at Jesus because they believed He violated the Law because He healed on the Sabbath, and considered His teachings to be lax and heretical. David James and his colleagues criticize Jonathan Cahn and claim that because some of what The Harbinger says is misapplied by Mormons and Christians whom they disapprove of, therefore he must be in error.
6.) The Pharisees, Sadducees, chief priests, scribes, and doctors of the Law called John the Baptist who was the Messiah’s forerunner and herald – a false prophet, and accused Christ of being a mystic and practicing sorcery, and misleading the crowds. David James and his colleagues accuse Jonathan Cahn of being a mystic and Kabbalist who practices sorcery and promotes Gnosticism in The Harbinger.
7.) The Pharisees, Sadducees, chief priests, scribes, and doctors of the Law cut Jesus off from the people of Israel and condemned Him to capital punishment for His teachings and claims. David James and his colleagues likewise attempt to cut Jonathan Cahn off from the Body of Christ as a false teacher and false prophet, - a death sentence to any ministry, and attempt to pronounce capital punishment on his ministry and service for God.
8.) The Pharisees, Sadducees, chief priests, scribes, and doctors of the Law considered themselves righteous and godly because of their office and works. David James and his colleagues likewise consider themselves righteous and godly for the same reasons, because they believe their deeds to be righteous and godly. Therefore any challenge that brings that into question appears to them as being wrongfully condemning and judgmental of them, and their motives for what they do. This is why they are incensed and offended that anyone should question what they do and say.
9.) The Pharisees, Sadducees, chief priests, scribes, and doctors of the Law never accepted Jesus’ legitimacy and claims, and did everything they could and brought all of the knowledge of the Law and the Scriptures to bear upon Him in order to discredit Him without listening to Him. David James and his colleagues have never accepted the legitimate claims of The Harbinger or its author, and have brought every theological argument to bear against Jonathan Cahn in order to discredit him and delegitimize him to the Christian Evangelical public and everywhere else.
10.) The Pharisees, Sadducees, chief priests, scribes, and doctors of the Law bore false witness against Christ to destroy him. David James and his colleagues have borne false witness against Jonathan Cahn in order to destroy his ministry and life’s work for the Lord – because they believe him to be a false teacher and prophet – and shut down the soaring sales of his book, The Harbinger.
11.) The Pharisees, Sadducees, chief priests, scribes, and doctors of the Law dismissed everything Christ and His disciples said and taught as coincidences when they alluded to the Scriptures speaking about the events of their day. David James and his colleagues consider The Harbingers in The Harbinger as nothing but coincidences of things that do not exist in the face of events directly connected to them that happened precisely as described in The Harbinger whose chances of having happened as they did being astronomical impossibilities, but they did.
And I am sure that there are many other examples where the behavior and thinking, and spiritual state of mind, and public attacks of one group of religious leaders dovetail those we see presently in these self-styled and self-appointed avatars and defenders of the faith. How dare anyone criticize them for their public statements and condemnations, their sentencing of God’s judgment on those with whom they disagree with on matters of secondary and tertiary separation, but which are to them matters of primary concern (as Brannon Howse recently declared on radio)? This only indicates the state of mind these people are in, and the overall lack of humility for even considering themselves impervious to criticism, especially from people they deem inferior and ignorant to themselves. They believe that their work is a “different and powerful work of the Holy Spirit” to those who disagree with them, and therefore justify their methods and their public statements with this claim. They forget that their condemnatory demeanor and mistrusting ways are not hallmarks of the fruits of the Spirit, nor are their predilection towards quickly judging and condemning someone before they’ve given the person the opportunity to speak for themselves. They’re not fooling us. Their statements are self-evident.
Many people have alluded to similarities David James and his colleagues and other critics of The Harbinger to the Pharisees, Sadducees, chief priests, scribes, and doctors of the Law, and have called them just that. I have produced here ten examples of why this assessment is correct. Let me make this clear though. Anyone of us can fall into this type of thinking and behavior. We are not above it. It is sad to see it in the Body of Christ, and very sad when we see it used against people we know and respect for many years, whom they wrongfully accuse and bear false witness against. Dr. Reagan is quite correct in writing as he has, for the evidence speaks for itself, and Mr. James’ own statements hear corroborate the verdict that these people are nothing but self-righteous religious bigots and ambulance chasers, very much like the Pharisees, Sadducees, chief priests, scribes, and doctors of the Law.
v DAVID JAMES: Although Gamaliel’s observation turned out to be correct concerning the gospel and Christianity, it isn’t a universal truth. Not everything that is not from God “comes to nothing”—at least for a time. This is obvious when one considers that with one billion adherents each, neither Islam nor Hinduism have “come to nothing.” That the vast majority of the world’s population believes things that are patently false is a sober reminder that truth is not decided by popular vote. Similarly, that The Harbinger was the best-selling Christian book of 2012 does not necessarily demonstrate that it is from God. The only determining factor is how it compares to Scripture—and The Harbinger doesn’t meet this test very well.

v DAVID JAMES: But even beyond this, why has Dr. Reagan felt it necessary to launch a personal attack and characterize those with concerns about The Harbinger as “nit-picking, Pharisaical hyper-critics of Christianity?” Doesn’t this put us in the same category as those outside the faith—those who are skeptics, scoffers, mockers and unbelievers?

v DAVID JAMES: And how does Dr. Reagan explain the fact that many of The Harbinger’s critics have a long and consistent history of being respected Bible teachers and firm defenders of the faith? Why would those who have been trusted for so long now suddenly become numbered among the worst of God’s enemies?

v DAVID JAMES: Why would Dr. Reagan characterize those with concerns about The Harbinger in such a pejorative way as to describe them as the “pit bulls of Christianity” who “growl and yap and snarl”—and who by implication are not “speaking the truth?” And he has done so although neither the issues addressed nor the methodology of exposing and responding to error have changed. While it is true that historically much of the focus in apologetics and discernment has been on the dangers of philosophy, world religions and Christian cults, errors coming from within the church have also been the subject of much work from this same group over the years—and rightfully so.

v DAVID JAMES: “As I urged you when I went into Macedonia—remain in Ephesus that you may charge some that they teach no other doctrine, nor give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which cause disputes rather than godly edification which is in faith.” (1 Timothy 1:3–4, NKJV)

v DAVID JAMES: “Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons, speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their own conscience seared with a hot iron,” (1 Timothy 4:1–2, NKJV)

v DAVID JAMES: It has always been our shared responsibility to deal with error, not just outside the church, but inside it—which is arguably the greater problem. When error arises from within the church it is generally more insidious—and as this controversy has shown, it is often more difficult to deal with. And in fact, many of The Harbinger’s supporters have dealt with exactly these kinds of things within the church themselves over the years.

v DAVID JAMES: So, the question that begs to be asked in relation to The Harbinger is, “Who changed the rules?”

v DAVID JAMES: Although all would agree with Dr. Reagan’s plea, “Wake Up, America!” it must be recognized that realistically The Harbinger’s generic call to repentance to a multi-cultural, multi-faith nation largely made up of nominal Christians, Muslims, Jews, Hindus, Buddhists, Animists, Wiccans, agnostics and atheists is not going to cause America to turn to the God of the Bible. That likelihood is further lessened when one considers the unclear and confused presentation of the gospel in The Harbinger’s chapter on “Eternity” (where there is no mention of faith or belief, Christ’s sacrificial death in our place on the cross, His shed blood, or even His resurrection).

Gentlemen,
I’ve never said that you can’t or should not express your opinion - But believers throughout the kingdom differ on countless issues and believe that the differing views are errors or false – from the tribulation period, gifts of the Spirit, free will, etc.etc – issues which are inside the kingdom not outside – and issues among believers – Thus we can say we believe and see things differently – or believe that this other opinion is wrong - But if believers started labeling such other teachings as “false teachings” and their fellow believers as “false teachers” then virtually everyone in the kingdom would be a false teacher - That’s the problem.
YOU DO THAT WITH CULTS; YOU DON’T DO THAT WITH OTHER CHRISTIANS. RESPECTFULLY, THAT’S NOT HOW APOLOGETICS WORKS. AND IT DOESN’T SERVE GOD’S PURPOSES, BUT ONLY SERVES TO DIVIDE AND CAUSE CONTENTIONS WITHIN CHRIST’S BODY.
To share one’s differences is fine – and to say you don’t agree is fine - but to write that God is warning America and giving specific signs as “unbiblical” is beyond that and over the line. You’ve written that you’ve never questioned Jonathan’s salvation and you’ve defended it – that’s commendable - But you may not realize it but you’ve crossed the line here as well - and spoken in terms of “false teaching” and “false teacher.” That’s wrong.
Further, even though you’ve defended his salvation as he would defend yours – You’ve worked under a man who has done the opposite – In fact Jimmy DeYoung has gone on the air to call Jonathan not only a false teacher but a false prophet – a very serious charge – and you’ve never corrected him. He even came on the air and said that Jonathan is a false prophet who will be cut off – extreme recklessness and you’ve never corrected him there either. You’ve said that Jonathan never corrected a host who spoke of him in terms of a prophet – but you’ve never corrected these or many of the other reckless things Jimmy DeYoung has done and said regarding Jonathan – When you could have – you didn’t, and as yet, you haven’t.
This is not even to mention that Jimmy DeYoung has gone on the airwaves to say that you can take the mark of the beast – Now that would affect someone’s salvation and destiny – And that is a direct anti-biblical counsel – extremely dangerous. Have you ever corrected him on this – or told him he needs to undo it?
Beyond that Jimmy DeYoung went on rants about how Jonathan was trying to convince people that God is finished with the Jewish people on the air – and you’ve never corrected him on the air – And his rants came from what you told him – and you’ve never issued an apology on the air - nor has he. Even though you will now say he’s not into Replacement Theology, you’ve never publicly apologized for what you publicly did and alleged and launched. As I’ve mentioned above in various places; many of these false charges, while not directly made by you (some were and continue to be), were made by others who based their opinion and statements on information you gave them directly, making you complicit in what they said, especially because you have yet to correct them, and have offered all manner of excuses to justify these canards and lies about Jonathan Cahn, his book, and his ministry and life’s work and calling.
Having differences is not a problem – But what you and Jimmy DeYoung have done is something else. This is the bearing of false witness – and against a minister of the Gospel – and done publicly over the airwaves and the internet.
This is an extreme wrong done in the kingdom and you and Jimmy DeYoung have never fully owned up to it – or fully undid it.
In fact Jimmy DeYoung continues to do things like publicly attack Jonathan’s salvation and you’ve never publicly corrected him. Why? How can you let such things go by?
This is not even to mention the other false public accusations, that because he cited reference from mystical Jewish writings, using them as a hostile witness in support of the Gospel as is often used in Apologetics; you’ve said in your book that this means he’s advocating the Kabbalah, when he’s clearly spoken against such things.
You and he need to go on the air, just as you went on the air to allege and accuse of these things, and fully own up to it, fully apologize, and fully correct it. You need to seek to contact as many other people on the web who have taken what you did and spread it further, and undo the damage. This is not personal, this is only bringing you in front of a mirror so you may see your own reflection.
Let me ask you a question, and I do with the utmost respect. If someone mounts a polemical public relations campaign against The Harbinger’s critics – for example – for eighteen months, and the websites of his colleagues had links to articles which misrepresent and misinform people as these do, wouldn’t that person of whom those articles are written about consider these personal attacks against his ministry and service to Christ? This is where I draw the line. This is what I find objectionable. As to what the critics of The Harbinger write, where it does not get personal, I have no problem with it, because it can be proven Scripturally, historically, and in a biblical manner that what you write is incorrect. This I can do and have done in several places, without the need to get personally abusive.
What I find objectionable are the terms such as “false teacher,” false prophet,” “mishandling the Scriptures,” “serious errors,” and such. We do not need to resort to these descriptions to say they disagree with one another. Read how Dr. Rydelnik does it in his book. It is brilliant, and refreshing. This is how I am now crafting what I write in answering The Harbinger’s critic’s objections. I neither wish to repeat my mistake, nor do I want to be disagreeable, but discuss these matter thoroughly and allow our readers to determine for themselves as the Holy Spirit imparts understanding to them, what The Harbinger does or doesn’t say.
The great thing is that Rabbi Jonathan has been Christ-like in both his behavior and public appearances, and statements, and as conciliatory as can be considering that he has been made a target of criticism and vilified by The Harbinger’s critics for so long, and being struck, has not struck back, being slandered and libeled, has not returned abuse; he has been and is a shining example to all of us. Yes, David, to you, to your colleagues, and to me; to all of us.
I will address now what you’ve written to Dr. Reagan, but I will do so in a manner that does not bring into question your character or try to speculate on your motives about calling Jonathan a “false prophet,” “false teacher,” or one who “mishandles God’s Word,” etc…, I’ll leave that up to you. I may criticize your methods, but I’ve never called you any of these, though I have used the analogy of the Spanish Inquisition and other metaphors in making my points. I used them, and perhaps they were a bit of a hyperbole on my part. I have only used these analogies to illustrate that today any form of theological persecution is where a person is branded by another as a false teacher or false prophet. A person’s ministry can be effectively destroyed by such charges, and in many cases they have suffered loss as a result. We don’t want to get there. We want to avoid this at all cost.
While calling someone a “false prophet” or a “false teacher” or one who mishandles God's Word” may not be bringing them in front of a tribunal for execution, or burning them at the stake, or crucifying them literally; it is by all intents and purposes a destruction of their ministry, their life’s work, and the labor of Christ’s calling upon them, when it is done to any of God’s people. They may not be getting killed in the physical manner, but they are most certainly being killed in a spiritual manner by innuendo and direct assaults upon them verbally. The old “sticks and stones will break my bones, but names will never hurt me,” does not hold when it comes to Evangelicals beating up on one another over doctrinal or theological differences of opinion. As I’ve observed above, call anyone a “false prophet” or “false teacher,” and you’ve literally effectively consigned their ministry to the grave, because most people in today’s climate will not take the time to investigate for themselves whether what is being said is right or wrong.
I think the false prophets of the world are obvious, though they do have a following. But Jonathan Cahn is not among these, and to mischaracterize him – a man I’ve known for over ten years, whose teachings I am very well acquainted with – as a false prophet or one who mishandles God’s Word, when the facts speak otherwise, is to me as it should be to anyone who knows the man; the most objectionable canard one can make upon another. It is wrong, just as what I had posted previously and took down was wrong. I felt crushed by doing that to you; crushed. I pulled it down right away, and I’ve made my public apology for it. Will you and your colleagues do the same for Jonathan Cahn? For the sake of Jesus Christ Our Lord? For the sake of peace and reconciliation?

I can only quote the following post because I could not have framed it better. A lot of damage has been done. People have gotten hurt. Let’s be the type of people who help pick up the pieces, not those who cause wrecks. For people like David James who have questions about such things, I would respectfully ask that they open their Bibles and read them afresh without the cynicism of man and his feeble attempts to put God in a box he can understand in order to fit his theology. Rather, let’s do what the writer to the following post suggests, and we shall arise from our ruins with God’s mercy and His help as we call upon His name, and seek His forgiveness and favor, and make Jesus the Messiah our personal Lord and Savior.

I’m leading a Bible study on the OT prophets on Wednesday night. They proclaimed the glory of God and warned Israel and Judah that God would not tolerate their sin, their false prophets with their positive messages, their empty religion, or their unfaithful hearts. Israel ignored the impending doom, and even persecuted the prophets for daring to say that God’s judgment would come. Then, one day, the “day of the Lord” came and the chosen nation was laid waste. What the prophets warned had come true.
And Israel was wholly unprepared for the aftermath because they never accepted that the judgment would ever come.
Permit me a momentary hermeneutical break. America is not Israel and never has been. We are not the chosen people of God and have never been special in his sight, nor do we hold a superior position in God’s kingdom. But we have been a nation of (at the least nominal) Christians. Our founding documents recognized a responsibility to God and gave honor to him. We are not the modern Israel, nor do we hold a special place in God’s heart, but we were at once a nation which, in the whole (though inconsistently and imperfectly), recognized the God of the Bible as our God.
Those days are long gone. During my lifetime, our national culture has done a 180 degree turn, embracing a culture of moral independence. Few in 1975 (the year I graduated high school) would have believed that we would be having today some of the moral debates that we are having. Under the current administration, the process of secularization that has been slowly growing over the last 5 decades has exploded into prominence. We are a post-Christian nation which has rejected divine authority and embraced moral individualism.
I’ve heard warnings about this from the pulpit all of my life. Of course, they have often been framed in nationalistic terms – turning America back to God, saving this great country – but the message is that of the prophets, “repent or be judged.” Proverbs 14:34 reminds us that “righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people.” Sin brings consequences in our personal lives, in our society and in our nation.
But, if we believe this, the moral collapse of our nation may not be a time for despair for the church of Jesus Christ. If we believe that sin is a reproach, that sin has devastating consequences, then the crumbling moral foundations of America may provide an opportunity for us to minister. The church has been, in my opinion, far too focused on “saving America” and returning this land to the mindset of the past (a concept that the persecuted minorities of the past might not share). Our focus needs to be on ministry to this nation as it crumbles. Israel was unprepared for what came to that sinful nation. We must not follow in its footsteps.
We may not be able to stop the moral crash of our nation, but if the church will be the church God called us to be, we can be there to help pick up the pieces and minister to the fallen.
Here is my reasoning:
1) America (and the West in general) has abandoned any sense of responsibility to God. Our new ethic is self-centered and self-indulgent. Whatever makes me happy must be right. I follow my heart and do what I want to do.
2) That is a recipe for disaster, both personally and nationally. Sin has consequences. Walking in obedience to God brings blessing. When we walk in the ways that seem right to us, we fight out that the Scriptures are right and that walking in our own ways, “leads to death.” (Proverbs 14:12). If our nation continues on this path, there will be horrific consequences. Families will continue to disintegrate and the effects on children will be felt for generations. As people embrace sin, they will suffer the consequences of that sin – dysfunction and brokenness will abound. And, if we believe Scripture, there is even active judgment that flows from God on sinful nations.
Our nation will suffer greatly for its sin.
3) We may not be able to stop that moral fall. Would that we could. There are many that argue that we can still reverse the fall, but once a collapse begins it becomes difficult to prop the building up. There are no political solutions. A massive, nationwide revival that would dwarf the effects of the First and Second Great Awakenings would be required and no one can predict that.
Personally, I think we need to stop focusing on how we can prevent the moral fall of America and start preparing for how we can minister to people as it happens.
4) Our focus needs to be on ministry to hurting, broken, sin-destroyed people. The moral collapse we have seen will produce a bumper crop of dysfunctional families, broken homes, addictions, abused and abusive people, moral perversion and enslavement – what we will see may make us long for the good old days of 2013!
We need to hone the gospel to make sure we are proclaiming it with clarity. Too often we have added extraneous elements to the gospel. We need to sharpen our understanding of and proclamation of the story of Christ’s death for our sins and resurrection that we might have new lives.
We do not need to compromise with the world’s sin (by approving of what God condemns) but we must move away from country club churches and develop the concept of the church as a hospital for sinners. The church that molds to fit into a sinful culture is no longer a church. The church that holds on to a culture of the past is ineffective. The church that proclaims the timeless gospel in a culturally appropriate way can prosper regardless of what is happening in the world.
We need to develop ministries to address the brokenness we are going to see more of in the days ahead. Jesus came to heal those whose lives were broken by sin.
We should never see sinners as the enemy. The enemy is the Liar, the Evil One, who deceives and devastates. Sinners, even belligerent ones, are the battleground. We do not fight against sinners, we fight FOR them, with the Word, the gospel, and the power of Christ. We battle against the darkness to shine the light, so sinners can be freed to walk in that light.
Remember the words of Jesus in Luke 5:31-32? ”Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. 32 I have not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance.” Jesus came to heal the sick. As our nation descends into and embraces moral sickness, does that not provide the true church of Jesus Christ an unparalleled opportunity to do eternally significant ministry.
5) Perhaps, then, the moral decay of our nation can be an unprecedented opportunity for ministry!
Craig was a friend of mine in college. He was a liberal, I was conservative. I came from a church background and his background was sketchy. But we were friends. He told the most entertaining stories about his antics before he ended up in our little school. I don’t know if they were true, but they were hilarious! But one day, Craig and I were talking and he paused, looked at me and then said something profound.
“You good kids need to make sure you are always kind to guys like me. Our lives are always going to lead us into trouble. When we hit bottom, we are going to look for help from the guys who have been kind to them on the way down.”
I’ll never forget those words. I think they are true of the church. We need to be the hospital for sinners Christ called us to be, providing genuine ministry to people who may not seem to care. But when the consequences of their sin crash down on them, we can be there to show them to the healing power of Christ.
Let me leave no doubt about what I am saying. Should we as Christians engage in the public, even political realm? Yes. Should we attempt to influence society? Yes. Should we pray for revival? Absolutely. But we must also prepare for the tsunami of devastation that our culture’s embrace of sin will bring. Barring a mighty work of God, we are facing a societal collapse of epic proportion. The church needs to stop bemoaning this collapse and start preparing to do spiritual disaster relief when it finally hits.
I may always regret that America has become what it has become. But that kind of spiritual nostalgia is unproductive. To the contrary, this moral crash that America is headed toward may provide a unique opportunity for ministry.

Pastor Greg Sharpe who teaches this excellent series on The Harbinger is a pastor at Brandon Bible Tabernacle in Brandon, Florida. Pastor Sharpe is to be commended, because he has developed a teaching series of The Harbinger that allows the serious Bible Student to get deeper into the New York Times Bestseller.
The teaching series are accurate, precise, well-developed from the book, and properly expounded by Pastor Sharpe, who helps make the various elements that form the nine harbingers, understandable, and easy to put into context as they occurred and developed one after the other.
